Hi family and friends,
This is waaaay overdue cause Zack is now 19 months old but we have been a bit busy with buying and selling houses, packing and moving, being “homeless” for a few weeks and growing a baby brother for Zack. Phew!!! I can’t even remember where to start updating you all and this is going to be a novel if I give you every detail.
First off, Zack is growing and developing by leaps and bounds. Every day he adds a new word or two to his vocabulary. I can’t even keep up! At his 18 month well-child visit he is, of course, loved by his pediatrician and she thinks is absolutely adorable and wonderful and a great kid. He is very healthfully in the 90th percentile across the board for weight, height and head size (of course). Here are the stats if you want them: weight – about 30-31 lbs and height – about 34 inches. The boy eats well and sleeps like every parent’s dream (2-3 hour nap in the afternoon and 10-11 hrs at night). We can’t get enough of his cuteness, except when he throws the occasional toddler-tantrum. Even then it’s hard not giggle a bit at him. The “no” has started over the last week and it’s his favorite word. He uses it all the time! We are trying to get him to use the word “yes” but not very successfully yet. My favorite word that he has been saying lately is baby. When asked where mommy’s baby is he will (sometimes) point at my belly with a big smile and says “baby”. Melts my heart every time!!! We have been realizing lately that he understands way more than we think that he does. Gotta start being even more careful about what we say around him! He also is an expert climber and is very busy most of the time, except when he sits and reads his books for 15-30 minutes at a time (no kidding!). The kid LOVES books and has a great attention span for sitting through pretty long books. His other new obsessions lately are trains (which he calls choo-choos) and trucks. Loves them!
So, major update on the house-selling…we accepted an offer on our house the middle of July and three days later we found the perfect house for us and put an offer on it immediately, which was accepted. The timing of everything amazes us all the time! The inconvenient timing in all of this has been the 3.5 weeks that we are “homeless” between houses. Thanks to generous and helpful family and friends we are able to have comfortable roofs over our heads with minimal adjustments for Zack during this time. We can’t believe how adaptive he has been through all of this! We hope the transition into the new house goes just as smoothly for him (and us!). Unfortunately for Lewis, with his other-half being very pregnant, he has had to do most of the packing and moving alone in addition to keeping up with his very busy work and travel schedule. Thanks again to very generous and very helpful family that has helped us move out of our old house and has promised to help us move into our new house.
Currently I am 34.5 weeks pregnant which means about five weeks till the guess date arrival of Zack’s little brother (but who’s counting). Baby 2.0 is growing right on target and is quite the mover, like his brother. The pregnancy has gone well minus the low back pain that goes along with a big baby belly and lifting a heavy toddler. We are anxiously looking forward to meeting our new addition and wondering how different or similar he will be to Zack.
Well, this has turned out to be a lengthy update so I will wrap it up. We hope you all are well and we look forward to seeing many of you in the near future.
Lots of love, Lisa, Lewis, Zack and Baby 2.0
Sorry this has taken me so long to get this out to you since Zack will almost 17 months in about a week. We spent pretty much all of May staying at the cabin and going back home as needed to do some maintenance. As you all know, we have still yet to get an offer on our house so our life is still in limbo which has been very exhausting and stressful. Even though we’ve been anxious and stressed about our house, we are very lucky to have this peaceful place to stay. Zack has really loved spending so much time in the outdoors and being able to explore so much. He is so busy now! As Mommy get slower, Zack gets faster! He’s almost running now. It’s fun to see him taking so much in. He is quite the little sponge now and understands so much of what we say to him. He still has a limited vocabulary and uses some sign language but a lot of the time we can figure out what he wants.
Over the last month, Zack had his 15 month well-child visit to the doctor and did great! At that visit in the middle of May, Zack was in the 50th percentile for height and the 75th percentile for weight with a head size in the 90th percentile. I weighed Zack about a month later on our scale at home and he had gained a little under two pounds! He is getting soooo heavy!
As Zack grows, so does his little brother and Mommy is getting very big! As I write this, we have a little more than three months to go before the due date. Time is flying by soooo fast!!! We are looking forward to meeting this little guy and seeing how similar and different he is compared to Zack (are we going to have another red head?). We do hope we are settled in a new house by that time though!
15 month milestones: played in sand for the first time (now loves playing in his sandbox), quit using bottles and is now all over drinking out of sippy cups, started making car sounds when he pushes his cars around (super cute!), first kayak ride for about 5 minutes with dad (really enjoyed it and sat very still), first ice cream (yum!)
16 month milestones so far: obsessed with reading books and having us read books to him (then wants us to read the same book five times in a row – super cute but quickly getting sick of reading the same books!), first visit to a beach (walked right into the water and was squealing with laughter), working on transitioning to one nap, has gotten really good a feeding himself with a spoon (such a mess though!), second haircut (did pretty well and looks super cute!), can now climb onto the couch, tries to climb up and down stairs like a big boy now instead of crawling up and down (which makes for a lot more falls now)
Expanding vocabulary: pa-pa (pacifier or park), cheese, keys, bub-bub (bubbles), hi cat, ma-ma, da-da, makes a bitchy cat sound when you ask him “What does a cat say?” (Chewy is not super fond of Zack and does not meow nicely when he pets her), does sign language for: more, all done, eat, water, nigh-nigh (sleep), bath, airplane, and help me with this.
We have been fortunate to see many of you lately and look forward to seeing more relatives in July. Hope everyone is well.
Love you all!

Hi family and friends,
It’s been about a month and a half since I sent out the big Zack update. Time flies once again! This last month has kept us very busy. As you all know by now, our family will be expanding in October and to make room for this expansion, we will be moving (hopefully) sometime this summer. Lately we (mostly Lewis) have been trying to get the house ready to be put on the market. As any of you know that have visited us, we live in a very great neighborhood and we are very, very sad to be leaving it and our cozy house but we are off to the suburbs to find a much bigger house and yard that hopefully we will fall in love with too.
Zack is obviously oblivious to all of these changes so far and remains our cute, independent, easy-going, happy, red-headed toddler. Man is he in for some BIG changes! Hope he weathers the storm alright. Zack continues to become more and more toddler-like. It amazes us daily how much he understands and soaks up and communicates. He is still just doing a lot of sign language but has added more signs and a few words that he says. Recently he started saying nigh-nigh when it is time for bed. Sooo cute! He interacts a lot more now when we Skype too which has been really great for Lewis during his recent travels. Let us know whenever you want to Skype! He continues to be quite a little ham too. He has started dancing more but we have yet to catch it on video. He turns in circles and does this cute squat/bounce with his hands on his legs. Cracks us up!!!
So, as you can see from the pictures, the last month has included snow and also 80 degree weather!!! Nothing like Midwest weather! The picture of Zack playing in the snow is from Feb 20th. It was the first time he really played in the snow and enjoyed it too. The pictures of him in shorts and a t-shirt are from March 18th (80 degree weekend!). He’s really on the move now and enjoys exploring everywhere he goes. He’s going to be running in no time!!! The pictures with the other little boy is his playmate that I watch on Tuesdays. I left them alone for a second with a laundry basket and came back to find Zack had put it on top of Soren. Oh Zack, your sibling is in for some fun! :)
Also included is an early ultrasound picture at 8 weeks of Zack’s sibling. It was about the size of a gummy bear at that time and is now about the size of a peach. I was pretty tired the first trimester but never got sick and now that I’m in the second trimester, I’m starting to feel a bit more energetic. I will soon post pictures of my quickly growing baby belly.
Hope you all are well. We miss you!!! We’ll try to keep you updated as best as we can through the craziness that is our lives right now.
Lots and lots of love,
Lisa, Lewis, Zack and Baby #2
